November 5, 2010

Friends:

I am humbled by the support shown to me on election day by the voters of San Mateo County.  It will indeed be an honor to serve as the Supervisor representing the Third District, but I intend to work for all the county’s residents.  I want to congratulate April Vargas for mounting a viable campaign and proving that county politics can truly be competitive.  I also want to thank, from the bottom of my heart, my wife Elaine, my family, my supporters and the thousands of people who voted for me.

There are obvious challenges facing San Mateo County, but we must not lose sight of the fact that we live in a remarkable area with tremendous resources.  The negatives do not outweigh the positives in this county.  Certainly our budget dilemmas must be addressed, local social safety nets must be protected and a clear-eyed view of the path forward must be followed.  I know that our communities are diverse, vibrant and have enthusiasm for the future.  It is my sincere goal to bring an equally enthusiastic approach to my new role in county government.  I am looking forward to 2011 and I thank you all for your confidence in my abilities.

Sincerely,

Don Horsley

Member-elect, Board of Supervisors
